Fantasy became a DC reality when writer/editor Denny O'Neil and artist Howard Chaykin brought forth a new comic based on novelist Fritz Lieber's adventurous and virtuous warriors of myth, Fafhrd the Barbarian and the Gray Mouser. After making their comics debut less than a year earlier in Wonder Woman #201 - 202, the heroic pair of towering brute Fafhrd and cunning theif Mouser ravaged the medium in "Sword of Sorcery."

O'Neil and Chaykin's collaborative effort featured precise adaptations of Leiber's work, including the story "The Prince of Pain Ease" in the first issue, as well as original tales. With these story telling masters working together, DC produced a flawless portrait of two very dissimilar companions on a bold, nomadic journey. Welcoming adventure of all kinds, the seven foot, sword- swinging Fafhrd and his far more diminutive, sorcery trained companion, Mouser, traveled the most rugged terrain of the mythical world of Nehwon.

Comic book loyalists and fans of the fantastic converged to read of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser's conflicts with beasts, plunderers, wizards and much more until Sword of Sorcery ended with issue # 5 in December 1973.
